Why We Charge For What We Know

Why do we write about what we know — and kick ourselves out of work?

After 35 years of 14-hour days, people still wanted the oil changed — because they thought no one did it better. When you're the one expert 1,200 shops call, the more you know, the more people you end up frustrating, simply because you can't be everywhere at once. By the time you reach a machine a month later, someone's already tried every quack fix on it, and it takes four times as long to put right. There's no way around it — short of cloning yourself, and cloning is banned.

The Problem
1,200 customers, one expert, and no way to say no. The more people wait, the further behind everyone gets — with no fix except being in more than one place at once.
Free Solution — Tried It
Put everything down on paper and let people do it themselves. Turned out to be more dangerous, not less — a wrong fix tried alone costs more than waiting for the right one.
Metered Solution — What Works
Give the knowledge carefully, a step at a time, and charge for it — so it's used safely, not recklessly. Millions of dollars and five rebuilds later, this is that system.
“Knowledgebase is not a Google map. Close enough is not good enough.”

It's time to pay the people who hold this knowledge fairly for it — and build them a retirement instead of a fear of losing the job. Changing the oil for the 2,000th time doesn't get anyone into the Guinness World Records. Knowledge is patient work: build on it, refine the path to the solution, again and again.

“I will fix any problem you have, guaranteed — but it costs $7,500 for me to walk into your shop. Whatever you pay for this subscription is peanuts by comparison. I guarantee that.”

This business is a dream, not a sure thing — history says the last four attempts at this didn't make anyone rich, and Google and Apple will likely profit from it before we do. If the sixth time really is the charm, you'll know, because the Bentley will become a Rolls. Until then, this is a labor of love.

Philosophy

Why we share what we know

Growing up in a village, if your rice crop had a disease and you kept it secret, everyone went hungry. The same is true on the factory floor. The knowledge CRUNCH in manufacturing is real — the experts are retiring and they don't have time to teach the next generation.

The goal of DrMachines is to create the ecosystem where that knowledge is captured, structured, and shared — safely and carefully. Knowledgebase is not a one-day product. Every path to a solution is being drawn and refined, again and again.

“Have come a long way — from milking cows, playing with a cobra, and climbing coconut trees, to writing a knowledgebase in America. Who said it wasn't possible?”
